Happy Chinese New Year and the best of hope and luck in business and health. Some things are getting a little better when it comes to regular business hours and doing things outside of quarantine, other things have remained the same and are more of a daunting task like doing the pickup order from the Walmart app. After all it beats wearing a mask inside. I have had items broken and tempered twice.
At any rate hardship still seems to be for all even after a peaceful Joy filled holiday season I was outside on my way to do some marketing to the small business locations that were open during construction and the pandemic and I saw a line of tents that made me feel like I was in skid row in a major metroplex. It made me stop and reprioritize my messaging. I happened to be gifted with the fortune of being able to make it through just about anything on my feet. With the local authorities throwing people in jail to get them off the street and neighbors calling and filling complaints about abandoned vehicles and vagrants loitering in the neighborhood have had the same millions of people who are still stuck outside in addiction and homelessness still have nowhere to go. I have myself fallen on hard times and like I said I usually always land on my feet but I must admit it seems to be a heck of a lot easier asking for help from friends and family than it is to ask associates and strangers.
Essentially with covid a number of people have been inside of their homes and spaces with one another there's a large number of leases that are signed through roommates.com blank blank blank I've seen a lot of sober and assisted living opportunities that don't necessarily permit the long-term stay of outside guests and at least specifically to a particular group so that's what the deal is with all of that on the other hand what's going on with all the homeless shelters subsidized housing they centers and local nonprofits that support the homeless population it seems all good to have places to go but it's almost pointless if the wait list is over 2 to 3 years long and there's a wait just to get an emergency overnight bed not a topic I had ever considered for over 15 years however more recently I have discovered that this is a great pool of people for donations and extra support if you're like me it almost never crosses your mind but take a moment and look through your drawers and closets see if you have any blankets warm wear food or change that you can take to the dumpster.
Yes I said dumpster, less than 40% of the items donated to Goodwill the arc and your local religious organizations actually goes to the individuals and families that need it less than 20% of the items donated to other charitable foundations goes to the proper recipients and they are a number of places that accept and ask for donations and have no intention on going I'm giving the funds to the proper individuals and families that can use it one of the local news channels found out that a local nonprofit that aids disabled that elders was turning down clients based on ability to pay by lowering the monthly income on the application another journalist reported that they got tips on an agency that pays bills for seniors and disabled vets and they were certain that the owner's pocketed over 30% of the revenue from these patients and registered clients instead of the bills being paid they had complaints, disconnect notices, evictions and unpaid prescriptions as a result. Not my area of expertise but definitely can lead to a great write-off towards the end of the year and bypass all of the mucky duck that they go through on a regular basis with the people who are supposed to be of help.
